Pieced woodpecker

As part of the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge blocks, I am making a bird of the month in the color of the month. The woodpecker says that August is his month.

The pukeko objected saying that he looks more like Angela's indigo sky than a stupid woodpecker although he was already the bird for May. Eventually there will be twelve owls, and they can be the jury.

  1. Love the woodpecker! We used to have one visiting us and they are so fun to study :)

  3. I adore your birds! (The pukeko is my favorite, so I guess I'll have to recuse myself from the judges panel...)

  6. The jury may still be out but I think they are both fantastic. I can't believe you just go figure out how to make birds out of pieces of fabric.

  7. I will have to side with the pukeko. After all, he has a very sharp bright eye in that wonderful blue, whereas the woodpecker is just clinging there, not even starting on a hole. However, fifty years ago I used to rock and nurse my daughter while watching a woodpecker who was constantly busy in our big oak tree. So maybe he has the edge on fond memories.

  9. I just hope the woodpecker doesn't take it out on the pukeko! That would hurt! (lovely job on the woodpecker by the way)

  10. The woodpecker is definitely a good colour for August - indigo, black, gray.
