String Diamond Star

Here's the first assembled string star. This is quite subdued for me. But that was kind of the point because I was finding myself using all the bright strings for another quilt. And as a reminder, you can find the inspiration for this quilt in the Pat Nickols collection at the Mingei International Museum.

I must have made a miscalculation along the way because this star is about 20 inches square. Much bigger than I had planned.  But that's all right. This is all fun sewing. Especially because I decided to construct it like a Kaleidoscope and avoid setting in squares. That is, I sewed two light right triangles to the outside of each diamond before sewing all the diamonds together. As the last step, I added the rust outer corners.

Molly and Buddy did not find any of this interesting. But now you can see how easy it is to miscalculate given the cuteness overload in the sewing room.
