Quilt Mathematics

I am continuing to face challenges using a smaller cutting mat. If I remember my quilting mathematics correctly, my cat to mat ratio is too high. Also, the biggest problem is the cat is awake. At certain times in the morning and afternoon, the cat to mat ratio falls to zero, so I think my best solution will be to work on my timing.

Also, the inspection of the house was today, and there was plenty of bad news. I have never been a fan of foundations in patchwork, and apparently the house has problems with foundations as well. So having a larger space so I can use a larger mat may not be happening as soon as any of us would like.

However, the new house does have a quilt shop less than two miles away, and I have signed up to take a workshop in the Lucy Boston quilt. And in case you don't believe in miracles...I did find the book and acrylic templates I bought some time ago when I decided to put this quilt on my someday list.

Enjoy your class and keep us updated on your progress.

  2. Well, hopefully that larger space will happen soon, so your cat to mat ratio can improve. Good luck with that foundation.
I'll be looking forward to your Lucy Boston quilt - it's on my someday list, too!

  3. Which quilt shop is it? Have fun at your class. I have the same problem with my cat to mat ratio, and it often affects my rulers as well.

  5. Best wishes on getting the house thing straightened out. Better they take care of it now rather than finding out about it later. Cat to mat ratio ... I guess I don't have a problem with that. Now I'm off to look up Lucy Boston quilt...

  6. Wait . . . you've found a new house already??? That was fast. I thought you were going to rent for a year or so first.

  7. Sorry to hear about the problems with the house, hope all can soon be fixed up for all of you. Yes, you definitely need a larger cutting mat. I, too, have had to work to a schedule to avoid a "helper" at my machine and my ironing set up.
