Seeing Red

Oh dear. First, let me start by saying how sorry I am about the selection of fabrics today. However, Molly is seeing red. Among other things, a new wild fire was started in Oregon...with fireworks. Needless to say, Molly does not like fireworks.

Here is the red fabric. And yes, the one with white and turquoise depicts a tsunami. I told Molly to please pick another color.

So here is her offer of three gray fabrics, and I wouldn't dare say anything bad about gray given its the color of sky and remnants of wild fire.

Molly did agree to add some novelty prints so she went with black and white cats, giraffes, sheep and sharks attacking surfboards.

If you are interested in a rather angry selection of fat quarters, please leave a comment and Molly will pick a winner in a week. No need to try and cheer her up...that's what Buddy is for. She might be interested in what quilt pattern you might use for tsunamis and shark attacks, though.

  1. I would be happy with just those cute giraffes - red is right there with orange in my meager portions of the stash.

  2. Shark attacks and tsunamis, huh? Well, I have been wanting to do a quarter log cabin, big block in read and whites. Cats LOVE log cabins! Lots of places to investigate. Thanks for picking these today, Molly!

  3. I feel your anger. Being just south of you and experiencing all the smoke and evacuations of friends - to have more fires started by stupidity makes me see red too.

  4. I never thought I'd see sharks on fabric! That is quite the selection of novelty fabric!

  5. I agree with Molly. Coming from Southern California, wildfires scare me to death. And people who start wildfires make me so angry. Who's with me--shall we talk about banning personal fireworks up here, in recognition of our current climate? They've done it in SoCal and it keeps people, homes, and animals safe(r).

    1. Whoops--forgot to address the quilt pattern question. Log cabins, most likely. Keep those sharks in order, or something like it. Mostly, log cabins appeal to the homebody in me.

  6. I too share Molly's dislike of fireworks. Once a year municipal fireworks is ok, but otherwise -- not a fan. Iowa just legalized them, oh what a mistake. And yes, I love the fabrics, I have an electic selection of novelties too. Take care

  7. I and my cat, Patches, do not like fireworks in the hands of amateurs. They are legal all year round in Michigan now. Tell Molly I think the tsunamis and shark attacks fabrics might go well in a Storm at Sea pattern or a chevron pattern.

  8. Every person and cat in our house hates fireworks. I grew up in Southern California where I experienced too many wildfires and homes/roofs burned because of them. I think the tsunami and shark fabrics are butt ugly (although the others are cute!) But as Bonnie Hunter says, if the fabric is still ugly, you just haven't cut it small enough! And good reds are hard to come by.

  9. I'm not a fan of fireworks either--too loud, too smelly, & they scare my poor dog to death!

  10. Hope molly cheers up soon. Her selection might get worse than tsunami and shark attacking surf boards. Nice grays. dorthac at aol.com.

  11. There is a pattern for Hawaiian shirts out there that would be fun for the sharks and tsunami. A certain little boy I know would like them, but he would terrorize Ms. Molly. Not good for her current state.

  12. Tsunamis and shark attacks go well with everything except fireworks.
(Who makes and buys those sorts of fabrics???????)

  13. Molly must know that "Variety is the spice of life", with her assortments. I think that those could make for some fun table runners/toppers. I might even take a couple for a drawstring backpack. Gosh, could even put a few together for a tote bag of some sort! All sorts of possibilities are dancing around in my mind. Now, could Molly do something about giving me the gift of time? :)

  14. Well, I'm with Molly. My understanding is that Multnomah Falls is fully engulfed now, and that is indeed a tragedy. Worrying about folks who may lose their homes (not to mention their lives). Such a stupid, stupid prank with such devastating consequences for so many.

  15. Molly, I feel your pain. Maybe we need to suck up all the flood waters from Texas and spray the Oregon fires. The water would kill the fire and the fire would destroy the bacteria - win win. Just fooling around.

  16. What an eclectic mix Molly has chosen. I have a tiny amount of the far right pale gray and it looks great in all sorts of places. Tsunamis and shark attacks would take some thought. Thanks for the chance to win.

If it weren't for people being stupid and careless, there would be very few wildfires. I'm with Molly and am not a fan of fireworks, especially close to houses.

  17. Sharks and tsunamis could go into a bento box quilt. Molly might be amused by a good chin skritch. A78mandel at yahoo dot com

  20. Molly is quite the designer. My husband would love this color combination -- red and grey -- as he loves him some Buckeye football. I'm loving those giraffes!

  21. I live to the east of Montana and our skies have been filled with smoke for a while now. It makes the sun a pretty ball of orange/red around dusk. But I could live without that and without fireworks. Great offerings today. Today, I am inspired by simple nine patches. kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com

  22. Well, someone once told me that there is no ugly fabric. If you don't like the fabric, just cut smaller pieces. That philosophy works well for scrap quilts and improv piecing. Thanks for the opportunity to enter the giveaway. (shirparks@gmail.com)
