Oh dear. It's the return of the kittens. This one is down right psychedelic. It's made from a dress I wore in the late 60's that my mother made. And coincidentally, today is my mother's birthday and if she were still alive, she would be 100.
I made a litter of blue kittens that are going to run over to the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge for a fun frolic. No, I'm not starting a new quilt. This is classified as a REDO. In the original version, I used a purple polka dot as the background and I ran out of the fabric for the sashing. I used a plain muslin as the best substitute I could find, but it has always bugged me. Plus Molly mentions it every time she uses the quilt for a nap.
Otherwise, I do like the quilt. I especially like all of the kitten ears for the border. As I recall, I was fostering Roy the Horrible Kitten at the time and had not yet met Team Storm (Molly's litter).
Meanwhile, I am continuing to enjoy Bonnie Hunter's Idaho Square Dance. I have finished making the 48 blue log cabin blocks, and so now I'm making a gazillion and five four patches. It gets a bit fussy, but I do enjoy messing with all the different fabrics. I did notice that Bonnie had used an old floral fabric that I still have...so I made sure to include it.
That kitty cat quilt is wonderful! It's so fun looking at all the different fabrics you used.
ReplyDeleteI ♥ your new kitty. That's really a blue feral cat, lol. I have the "Addicted to Scraps" book from Bonnie and I too want to make the quilt on the cover. Oh! I so envy you. I need to finish something before I start something new. I will stay close by and enjoy looking at your quilt grow. ;^)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to celebrate your Mom's birthday!
ReplyDeleteLove that you used part of your old dress!! The Idaho Square Dance quilt is going to be great!
ReplyDeleteOf course you have the same fabric(s) as Bonnie Hunter used, LOL! Because if you still have the fabric from an old psychedelic dress...... And I presume Molly has checked to make sure you have plenty of the background fabric so that you can complete the new- er, I mean REDO quilt. 😉
ReplyDeleteRoy the Horrible Kitten...what did he do? I've got Gabby aka Spazarella the Toilet Paper Monster, and she's driving me and the other your cats nuts, but horrible? Nah. Not yet! The cats redo is great and I'm sure Molly appreciates your effort. She'll probably bring you a dead mouse as a thank you... Bonnie Hunter's quilts are on my someday list...not that I don't have enough fabric, I'm just not sure I have the perseverance to make it through another one (I made one of the mysteries a few years back and that was fiddly enough!).
ReplyDeleteLove that psychedelic kitteh!
ReplyDeleteWow - life before Molly? Can’t imagine what that must have looked like - boring? Rocky says I am NOT to think about making a cat quilt ... he is determined to be the only cat in my life ... and he sends his hello purrs to the beautiful Miss Molly =^..^=
ReplyDeleteA gazillion and five??? Wow!! That's a LOT of 4-Patches! I'm loving Flora and Dot, but Psycho Kitty is quite the looker.
ReplyDeleteThe cat ears border is my favorite part of the quilt, and that was even before I realized that they were ears. So cute. Hopefully you will have plenty of back ground fabric this time.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Molly will claim this redo as her own, too. All the best quilts are hers!
ReplyDeleteIdaho Square Dance is also on my list. I'm going to enjoy seeing yours go together!
The kitties are so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteechoing everyone else: your cat quilt is fantastic! love the border treatment, too!
ReplyDeleteLove the cat quilt. That blue cat is so extra special, I love the design but to hear it was made into a dress by your mom.
