Chicken sorting

We're closing in on the final layout for the speedy chicken quilt. Today I almost scorched my retinas trying to sort fabrics between red, red-orange and bright orange. It is remarkable to see a red fabric switch to orange when put up next to a true red.

Now that I'm living in Portland, seagulls are a common sight. So it seemed appropriate to have a seagull chicken.

This chicken falls into the red orange camp.

This chicken had a wing transplant from another chicken. Now it fits better in the brighter orange diagonal. Meanwhile, the donor chicken now has a darker wing and fits neatly in the rust orange diagonal.

And to set the mood for the day, we had snow overnight. Most of it is now gone. And yes, the hummingbirds (Molly says yummingbirds) were still coming to the feeders. And given this is Portland, I had one male that was wearing a bright pink hoodie--an Anna's hummingbird.

And inspired by the winter Olympics, Molly placed Gold in Sewing Room Mayhem when she launched from the ironing board to the sewing table sending iron, spray bottle and scissors flying. To celebrate, Molly had a parade around the house (AKA a piggy-back ride).

Buddy won a participation award for successfully breathing in and out all day and for eating a hearty breakfast.

  1. What a gorgeous gold medal portrait of Molly. She looks so innocent! HA! Darla suspects Molly may be doping with catnip. And poor Buddy; he just gets no respect. Love the chickens!

  2. Your chickens are just fabulous. I love all the colour and don't envy you the job of sorting them. Your cats are both beautiful too, they really do make a house a home. Thanks for linking to Sew, Stitch, Snap, SHARE.

  3. Suzi has reached the final of the breathing in and out all day event. Her secret, an extra cat stick at bedtime. Diet is at the forefront of her training programme.

  5. Awww- they are all beautiful. So wonderful to have such fun prints to work with - the fox one is so cute. (A fox on a chicken - too funny.) I was wondering about the sorting of these birds. I was thinking I would go nuts deciding between red/orange and orange/red. But you do a smashing job of it.

  8. Your birds always make me smile - yes always interesing how colours change so much from one placement to another! And your Olympian furry friends make me smile too - well done them for keeping you entertained! (I'm not sure which event our Nigel cat was just participating in but he's in Gold medal contention for the scramble he just made from the floor to the top of the wardrobe - through a four inch opening...!)
