Two for One

I have not forgotten the pinwheel garden quilt that I started last year as part of the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge. At the end of the year, I had only made about half the number of blocks I needed. For this, I'm primarily using single hue fabrics or blenders. As I have been making other quilts or rummaging through my stash, I spot a fabric that I think would be good for this quilt and I set it aside.

But a higher priority quilt, is the I-spy quilt for my grand nephew who asked for a quilt like his brother's quilt--except with his name. And it serves me right that I made the original i-spy quilt two-sided with I-spy images on both sides. I do have the required 299 i-spy images, but that doesn't stop me from cutting more.

The more daunting part of this project is that each image has borders to tilt the image. These wedges are  cut from 3 by 5.5 inch rectangles. Each image requires two rectangles. Happily, it also helps if these wedges are primarily cut from blender fabrics. Which means that most of the fabric set aside for the pinwheel quilts will work well for this quilt.

These are the fabrics that are all laid out on the cutting table waiting for me.

And here is the neglected kitten who probably has other plans for me. Yesterday she pawed at me, and without thinking I just bent over and she hopped on my back.  I realized that I had been well-trained, and my life is no longer my own.

  2. On the pinwheel quilt, you need to turn the gold/yellow block in the 2nd row, 2nd column. Pretty fabrics.

  3. My kittens must be neglected, too, because they also reach out for me whenever I pass them by while they’re perched at an appropriately equal or superior height. Question on the pinwheels and HSTs (glad they’re off a back burner) - what size are you making your pinwheels and HSTs? I seriously want to do this one for the RSC. I love the unique tilt you put on your I-Spy blocks. Final comment: Sheesh!! I can only imagine the size of your stash (and Cathy’s, etc). I’ve literally spent hundreds of dollars this month stocking up and fillling in holes in my stash, and I doubt if I could come up with that many great blenders if my life depended on it!

  4. Hi Sally,
You have some wonderful fabrics for your I Spy quilt! I am just starting to gather blocks myself for my great-nephew. He didn't ask for one - he's only six months old - but I think he needs one. I am especially drawn to the cute yellow duckie and the basketball/hoop. Very cool - I can't wait to see it progress. I love seeing your cat photos, too. You are well trained! ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. Yeah, I've found I need to buy more blenders and TOTs (when I go off "no buy") for a couple of I Spy-ish type quilts. You are right - they work the best. I love your tilted blocks but am too lazy to go that route and usually end up with plain ol' Happy Blocks.

  6. Now you're going to be busy!! Love your bright blender fabrics - do you have a deadline to meet with this quilt?
