Speedy Chicken Layout Choices

Here are all the speedy chickens laid out on the design floor. At first, I had them laid out racing in alternate rows. It looked way too chaotic. I tried to calm the design down but decided instead to go back to the face off design. If I go with this design, I will want to make seven more right facing chickens so the chickens on the right side will have partners.

Here is the "pick sides" layout. This is better than the raceway layout (not shown), but its my second choice. Another excellent choice would be to race over to the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge and see the last of what 2017 has to offer.

The spiderweb quilt top is finished. It covers the entire design wall and drapes a bit on the floor. And yes, Molly is hiding behind the top.

I had to apologize to Molly because it turns out she was right. Last night, she discovered that I had laid the blocks out where the same fabric came together in one spot. She wadded up that section to prevent me from making a terrible mistake. She knew that if I found those two sections coming together with the same fabric, I would have to throw the quilt away.

I like the first photo layout best, but instead of making 7 more chickens, why not move the right-most row all the way left so you'd have chickens facing LRLRLRL? They'd be symmetrical at least... Does Molly have any suggestions?

Lovely finish with the spider web! I think I like the second chook layout best.

Love the spider web quilt!

The chickens look great, but instead of making seven more, remove the 4th row of left facing birds so you have 3 vs. 3. Then use those remaining seven for a pillow or runner or table topper, etc. It's going to be a fun quilt, whichever way you finish it off.

How about a rooster and a barn? Then you could hace some blank vlocks where the chickens were in the barnyard. I am really good at suggesting things for other people to do but not so good at doing things to my own projects. Whatever you decide will be fine. Love the spider webs!

Check with Molly about the chicken layout. I'm sure she has strong opinions... 8)
And thank goodness she saved you from that spiderweb near-tragedy!

Love the chickens. So much fun! I, too, was going to suggest a rogue rooster somewhere in there. I love little surprises and playful, witty things. I think I'd be inclined to turn a few of the chooks (as we call chickens in Australia) around so they are not all symmetrical. However, I get the feeling that might not be "your thing" (because I wouldn't bother if I found two fabrics together - I'd try not to do it, but it wouldn't bother me if it happened and went unnoticed when I was piecing it). Whatever you decide, just be sure that Molly is happy with it. BTW the spiderweb quilt is fantastic too.

Love your chickens. They all look they are in a manic hurry to get somewhere (The feed box?) or they're in a panic to get away from from something(Mr Fox?). Whichever layout you choose will be great. Gorgeous Spider Web. With a quilt this size and with so many fabrics it's inevitable that you will get same fabrics next to each other. I don't think that's a problem but can understand it could become a niggle!

I like the speedy chooks in both settings! The spider web quilt looks amazing, what a great finish. I keep meaning to start one of these....perhaps next year!

Are the chickens going to be a wall hanging? I can't seem to recall. LOVE that Spider Web quilt!! Best of luck with the quilting.

Love the pick sides layout, though I do worry that the chickens are all going to bump heads when they race face first into one another. Great spiderweb finish. Sounds like averted the minor disaster of repeated fabric.

Thank goodness Molly found the repeating fabric in time! But I would have saved it from the dumpster by offering to take it off your hands. Love the quirky speedy chickens. What are you going to call it?

I love playing I Spy no matter what form it takes! These are great game hens. I wouldn't brood about the layout too much!
