When we moved into the Portland house, I never expected to use its gas fireplace. And I constructed the design wall to expand across the mantle area attached to two shelving units. After our recent ice storm and several days in an increasingly cold house with grumpy cats, I took down the design wall and moved the shelves and everything they held. Then finally I got the fireplace working.
So meet Molly's new best friend. She was so pleased to meet her new friend that she expunged all the demerits from my permanent record.
Of course, all good things must come to an end, so after nine days without electricity, we returned to power. And now poor Molly and Buddy must make do with their boring, worn-in heated beds.

Wow nine days without electricity!
Nine days? Once we had seven due to a freak October snowstorm and I thought I would go crazy. I have a little gas franklin type stove that has a pilor light, so we were warm. However, it took about 5 years until I could light candles again.
Nine days is a really long time to be without any power--good thing you had the gas fireplace....

Nine days without power. Your kitties must have used up another life each day. Good grief. We have a gas fireplace too. I thought it was dumb when we moved in, but we sure like it now.

I’m glad you’ve got power back, but how does your gas fireplace run without electricity? Do you light it with a match? Ours, unfortunately, needs electricity to run, although there is battery backup (which only lasts about an hour or two). But thankfully we rarely have electrical issues here (*knock on wood*, none of which is in the fireplace...).
Love this. Two of our "outside" cats actually live in our wood stove heated garage. They lounge all day long in front of it.
Nine days is a long time to be without electricity. The longest we have been without is 5 days. Fortunately, that time was in the summer. However, it was extremely hot & humid and we couldn't run the AC. Cold showers actually felt good. :-). I am glad your demerits got expunged.
Seems like Molly and Buddy should have demanded you fly them to Cancun after two days in the cold. But just think how all the deconstruction helped keep you warm. Was this extended period without power due to the trees that came down?
