This Saturday I am attending a virtual workshop with Sujata Shah sponsored by the Portland Modern Quilt Guild. Since the project involves handstitching (like boro), we are advised to use soft fabric. This sounds like a good use of my stash of deconstructed plaid shirts. However, digging around in the plaid made me think I should make a plaid quilt...so I'm working on a plan...no squirrels involved.
Meanwhile, I feel the microspool quilt winding down...despite the fact that I'm not close to being done. Each microspool has a background fabric, and I cut "a few" different ones and choose a background for each spool. At this point, with each spool matched to its background, I am at least past the phase of cutting the background bits.
Next, I stack the spool bits with their backgrounds and take them to the sewing machine.
Here is a small sample from the last batch of a hundred or so microspools.

Those spools are great. And your fabrics for the boro are super fun. I'd like to do one too. Please inspire me!
So, 42000 microspools down, 3000 to go? Good luck!
You never have to guess how Molly is feeling about life, do you? She doesn't seem like one to suffer fools quietly...
That's an awful lot of spools!! Enjoy the virtual workshop with Sujata, I took part in one earlier in the year, really enjoyed it!
You had me at plaid!!! love those!! and the spools are so pretty!
OH those plaids!! I just love them....perfect idea for hand stitching! I have a micro spool project going too...now where are those? Sorry Buddy....poor baby darling!
I have taken a couple of classes with Sujata when she lived in PA. I did Organized Chaos and other blocks from her book. She is absolutely wonderful. Love the spools. I passed on her recent class because I don't get along with handstitching. When Tugger goes to the vet, I definitely need ear protection.
Fun spools.
When we lived in the condo, we took Dainty to the vet. She was howling so loudly in the hallway that neighbours were coming out of their condos to see what was being killed. No problem getting her into her carrier once we are through at the vet; she jumps into it, and is very quiet going home.
Have fun at the workshop.
Maybe Molly is training for her next career - an opera singer. Darla and Alfie have their annual checkups in September. I’m not looking forward to that. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with those lovely plaids!
