Cat Fight! (Project Quilting Challenge 3)

The theme for the third challenge of Project Quilting is the quilt block "54-40 or Fight." And for whatever reason, when I think about territorial disputes, fighting and sharp points, I think cats. Okay, I am often thinking about cats anyway...like "why are you shredding that," "don't eat that," and "ouch!"

My key strategy was to use cat-themed fabric for the entire quilt and call it Cat Fight! I also wanted to have two colors to represent two cats fighting each other...you know, with the points of the stars as claws. To keep it simple, I just did a sixteen repeat of the block (without pane or snowball block etc.) Then the quilt decided to do its own thing.

Each "54-40 or Fight" block is 7.5 inches square, so the quilt is roughly 30 inches square.

And there is more cat-themed fabric for the back.

And here is Molly intently watching for threats to her boundaries while her brother Buddy asks "What's a boundary?"

Great quilt with the bonus checkerboard secondary design. I hope Buddy figures out what a boundary is.

The cat theme is fantastic!

Love the design. I think Buddy always tests his boundaries.

I'm sure Molly is pleased to explain to him exactly what a boundary is, though I think a chart might work better than her pointed "hand" gestures.

I love the way you split to the blocks to make the quilt something special. I just have the one cat, but she does not get the idea of boundaries or off limits. She does stay off the dining table at least when I am around. My other cat, Tugger, used to sit on the table where I could see him through the window when I pulled in the garage, but by the time I got to the door, he was right there saying who was on the table- I have been waiting for you.

I love this! My first thought was to do cats and dogs, you know, "fighting like cats and dogs..." but I wound up going scrappy. I like how that looks without a second type of dogs and I always like knowing that mine are not the only cats with boundary issues.
