The Bindings that Bind

I am quite happy with the choice of the background fabric as the binding to the bounding bunny quilt. The border is made from bounding bunny tails and now they stand out quite nicely.

And here is my choice for the binding for the speedy chicken quilt. QuiltGranma mentioned in a comment a couple of days ago that a quilt show judge noted that her binding fabric wasn't in the quilt. It took me a long time to figure out that comment because I thought that having a different fabric would be a good thing. So needless to say, for the speedy chicken quilt I'm making sure to use a fabric as binding that is not in the quilt. I also like it because it looks like grass growing around the chicken wire fence.

You rule breaker, you! Great choices for both quilts.

Seriously? Quilt judges need to get over themselves sometimes! If the binding fabric fits then use it, right? ;-) I too love the grass growing around the wire fence!

Good for you, bucking the sadly misinformed advice of a quilt judge. Geez. That comment would make me mad. Where do some people come up with these “rules”?

Well then. I will join your fabric-is-not-in-the-quilt crusade. Maybe not all the time, but my decision will be more conscious now. Because I like knowing which "rules" I'm breaking! And I love your binding choice. I expect the chickens will, too. (But might advise against asking Molly...)

Really, I couldnt care less, either the binding works or it doesnt! And how do you make a scrap or stash quilt if you have to match the binding to the fabric in the quilt! Love your binding choices.

I like your binding choices and your quilts. I don't like judgmental judges.

Your binding choices are perfect! And judges who think they’re the quilt police should be bound themselves.... and then gagged and quilted.

Ridiculous! The judge...not you!

I never heard that the binding fabric should have been used in the quilt. Sometimes that little pop of color is just right. My binding is often very scrappy to go with a scrappy quilt. Who would know if the fabrics were used in the quilt or not?

Judgy judge is too judgy. Seriously? I usually pick a binding fabric out after I've finished the quilt - I was supposed to use it IN the quilt? What?
Your binding choices are perfect!

Actually it wasn't any "judge" at a quilt show, but a couple gals in my quilt guild! We'd have show and share every month, and for some reason they think they are "the boss and know it all" kind of people. Part of the reason I'm glad to have moved away.
